TAT_lab is a cooperative that, working within the territory of art, design and content development, is committed to creating hybrids which single out projects where concept and form are inseparable from the process of reflecting upon the dynamics of production and the need to establish a sustainable criterion in the context of crisis.
Therefore Utub, a constructive system of connectors initially intended for the production of communication structures and exhibition stands with sustainable criteria, low production cost and high added value, was created. Through the use of cardboard tubing as raw material and the evaluation of the environmental benefits and functionality that its qualities offer, a carefully developed hand-crafted manufacturing processes for the various elements involved was developed. Utub offers a range of connectors, of different angles and axis points, which, via a minimalist syntax, allows the construction of volumes and structures which permit the production of a range of furniture (tables, stools and cabinets), exhibition booths and household products with criteria which is environmentally sustainable.
Through the Utub philosophy we have developed Branca, a hand-crafted lamp where contemporary design coexists with energitic sustainability. The electronic components and LED technology used are at the service of eco-efficienct energy, with a light source needing only 1 w. to produce 190 lumens and an average lifetime five times longer than that of similar lamps. Natural forms have inspired this point of minimalist light, designed to illuminate the workspace, nightstand or used as ambient light. Branca brings together the environmental sustainability of the Utub system with the technology of no planned obsolescence, and applies it to the domestic product.
